A 17-year-old boy is expected to front court charged with murdering a young woman at an apartment in Melbourne's CBD at the weekend.
Laa Chol (19) died in a short-term stay apartment on the 56th floor of the EQ Tower amid a dispute between two groups of partygoers early on Saturday.
The Sunshine North youth was taken into custody on Monday afternoon before being charged with one count of murder.
He was remanded in custody to appear in the Melbourne Children's Court on Tuesday.
Friends of Ms Chol earlier paid tribute on social media to the "beautiful soul" who "didn't deserve any of this".
Her death has been dragged into an outgoing debate about so-called Sudanese gang violence in Melbourne but police insist this has nothing to do with the incident.
Premier Daniel Andrews said the woman's family deserved better than a political debate.
