Young sons see father killed by train

Two young boys have witnessed their father being hit and killed by a commuter train on the NSW central coast.

Police say the 43-year-old man and his children crossed the train tracks near Wyong yesterday evening.

The man then went back to pick up some groceries and was hit by a commuter train, Tuggerah Lakes police Chief Inspector Rod Peet said.

The boys, aged five and six, were found by a passing motorist on the Pacific Highway.

Police were called to the site just north of Wyong Railway Station at 9pm and found the dead man.

It's believed the train driver was unaware of what happened and continued to the next station.
