Steel beams are being eased into place at the site of the new Mosgiel Pool, providing another marker of progress on the eagerly awaited facility.
Dunedin City Council parks and recreation group manager Scott MacLean said yesterday’s work involved installation of the first of a series of large beams.
"This is a key milestone in the construction phase and it’s exciting to see the outline of the building beginning to take shape," Mr MacLean said.
Cook Brothers Construction site manager Scott Milne said once the beams were all in place, the roof would go on and then concrete would be poured for the pool bases.
Mr Milne said it was one of the biggest projects he had been involved in.

Five pools, including a spa pool, are to be created inside.
The complex will have access from Gordon Rd and Eden St.
Mr MacLean said the largest beam was 18m long and weighed five tonnes.
Installing the first three beams would complete the first "portal", which would span the new hydrotherapy, spa and 25m pools.
The pool complex is due to open in mid-2023.
