Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! was running through Charlotte Harraway’s head yesterday as she raced to pick up as many Abba records as possible, at the annual Regent Anything But Books Sale.

You had to be quick at these events because the winner takes it all, she said.

The 29-year-old was among hundreds who flooded into the Regent Theatre at noon yesterday, looking for bargains and buried treasures.

While Abba is not everybody’s cup of tea, its  records are like solid gold to her.

"I’ve been living in London for the last two years and there’s a big disco revival there.

"I just love Abba. They’re amazing."

She admitted to getting fully into the ’70s disco scene as a result.

"I own platform shoes — I’m not going to lie. Allegedly I have flares somewhere as well."

She said she could easily have bought CDs of the group, but there had also been a revival in vinyl records, which were so cheap to buy at sales like yesterday’s.

She also managed to pick up records of Diana Ross and the Supremes, Gladys Knight and the Pips, and Bryan Ferry  and they were only $1 each.

"I scored big time. It’s a 100% steal."

As well as the usual vinyl, elegant junk, jigsaws, CDs, magazines, toys and games, sheet music, DVDs, pictures and more, this year’s sale had new "special" tables containing collectables, arts and crafts.

Among the collectable items was a World War 2 British Royal Marines helmet with the name RL Baker - presumably the owner - written inside it.

It was hoped this year’s event would raise more than $11,000, which would help purchase a new waterfall curtain for the Regent Theatre stage.
