The 650-lot Longfield Mosgiel subdivision, which developer Lane Hocking’s Universal Developments is overseeing, was due to have its main launch in March.
It incorporates two reserves and playgrounds and a large active reserve running 1.2km through the heart of the subdivision which contains a cycleway and footpath.
Cr Andrew Simms, a former chairman of the Mosgiel-Taieri community board, said the company had kept the Mosgiel community informed, despite the community expressing some ongoing concerns.
"During my time as chairman, there were significant discussions with the Dunedin City Council about traffic flows, and with the Otago Regional Council about the stormwater provision for this development.
"At the moment, it’s a greenfields site which will be replaced by roofs and driveways and roads and that will put more pressure on the existing stormwater infrastructure.
"So there was, I think, rightfully concern over how those two issues would be mitigated by the design of the infrastructure around the subdivision."
However, the size of the subdivision was in other ways, "very encouraging for the Mosgiel and Taieri communities".
"I think it provides a real opportunity for additional housing and for quality housing for Dunedin, which we’re short of.
A city council spokesman said the application for resource consent was still in the processing phase.
"We don’t have an ETA yet, given it is a large and complex application to work through."
Cr Simms acknowledged the positivity of the developers to even try to get the project over the line.
"It’s a big undertaking by the developers. It’s still a relatively difficult time, so I think that it has to be acknowledged that they’re pushing on with it."
Mr Hocking was unavailable for comment.
However, the development’s website is taking expressions of interest.
"Being north-facing, Longview will have sunny sections of various sizes to suit all purchasers.
"We expect to launch around March or April 2026, at which point we will publish the scheme plan and a full set of information to allow buyers to identify their dream site."
