$8.3m from Wales test: report

The All Blacks and Wales test match in June added $8.3 million to Dunedin, an economic report has revealed.

Dunedin Venues Management Ltd  (DVML) chief executive Terry Davies said the result shown in the report was fantastic for Dunedin.

"Once again the importance of major events being held in Dunedin and the rewards they bring are evident here in this excellent result.

"We know that the benefits are widespread during a major event weekend and Dunedin shines no matter what the weather."

Some  28,726 tickets were sold for the match, 60% (16,516) of which were sold to people living outside the city, with the remaining 40% purchased by Dunedin residents, the report said.

Visitors spent an average of 2.09 days in Dunedin to attend the match.

The report estimated about 13,255 people visited the city primarily for the match.

On average each visitor spent $500 while in the city for the rugby.
