Dunedin Airport has ramped up security following the Christchurch attacks, but there are no plans for passenger screening on regional flights.

When asked about extra security measures following the Christchurch mosque attacks, the airport referred questions to the Civil Aviation Authority.

Authority corporate communications manager Mike Richards said the Aviation Security Service continued to have an increased presence at departure gates for regional flights from Dunedin, Queenstown, Christchurch, Auckland and Wellington airports.

Extra measures included officers assigned to regional gates in ''high visibility roles'', random screening of boarding passengers and Explosive Detector Dog Unit patrols.

''The continuation of these high visibility measures will be reviewed on an ongoing basis. The appropriateness of current domestic security screening settings is the subject of ongoing review, as is always the case.''

There was additional screening of regional flights from Christchurch following the attacks.

''That screening has now been discontinued. The director continues to monitor the situation very closely and will respond further if there are any changes.''

Sorry the public deserves the same protection as if they board an aircraft in Dunedin, Christchurch, Nelson. No wonder the public gets confused its because of the different rules / procedures.
