Two Dunedin apprentices are heading to the Master Electricians Challenge final.

Every year, apprentice electricians from around the country compete in situations that replicate industrial and domestic/commercial challenges.

After breezing through the heats, Jevon Storm and Sarah Pye are among this year’s 10 finalists who will compete in Taupo over three days, undertaking tasks and workstation challenges.

Both are employed by the Electrical Training Company Ltd  (Etco).

Mr Storm will be competing in the industrial division and Miss Pye is a finalist in the domestic/commercial division.

Master Electricians operations manager Bernie McLaughlin said "the scenarios are designed to test that they can respond swiftly and efficiently to challenging tasks they may face in their working life".

Mr Storm said the competition had been an "interesting and good experience".

"I went in with the mindset that if I’m going to do it, I’m going to do my best."

Mr Storm  had not expected to reach the finals  but  was looking forward to the tasks and "excited to go up north".

Miss Pye said that for her, the competition had "been a challenge".

However she felt "good" about the final.

"I’m just going to do my best and see how it goes."

The Masters Electricians Challenge is in its 15th year and will be held at the Hilton Lake Taupo from October 26 to 28.
