For the third time in five years, Australian rock singer Jimmy Barnes is returning to Dunedin - this time, for his ''Shutting Down Your Town'' tour.

He will scream the house down at the Dunedin Town Hall on September 25, in a concert that will include his classic hits, as well as highlights from his new album My Criminal Record, which will be released on May 31.

Barnes played to a sellout audience in the town hall in November 2014, and at the Regent Theatre in February 2017 for his Working Class Boy: An Evening of Stories and Songs tour.

The first concert of his tour is in Dunedin, and will be followed by shows at the Christchurch Town Hall on September 26 and Auckland's Spark Arena on September 28.

Tickets go on sale at noon on May 31.
