South Dunedin librarian Amanda Corrigan said the community and library staff were looking forward to the opening later this month.
"Initially we'll just be settling in and making the core things ... happen for people," she said.
"And then eventually in the coming year we'll be building up more programmes."
Over the past two weeks, staff had unpacked many of the 700 boxes of books and items which had arrived at library.
Ms Corrigan said South Dunedin’s pop-up library had held 2500 items — the new collection would be ten times that, at about 25,000.
The new library also included a recording studio, bookable meeting rooms and a makerspace which faced King Edward St.
"The idea is that people will pass and see what's happening and get curious and want to have a go at things," she said.
The planned public opening of the library is set for Saturday, September 27.
