Opening the throttle for one last time before his licence was taken away backfired for a Dunedin motorcyclist yesterday when a police officer clocked him allegedly doing 160kmh on the Southern Motorway.
The 20-year-old man had arranged to give up his licence this week after being disqualified from driving for amassing excess demerit points - for speeding.
He then came to the attention of the law again yesterday when he was clocked speeding on his Ducati motorcycle at 1.45pm in the north-bound lane of the Southern Motorway, near Green Island.
"When we pulled him over, he said it was the last time he was going to get to do this for a while," said Sergeant Tania Baron, of Dunedin police's strategic traffic unit.
The man had his licence suspended immediately and will appear in the Dunedin District Court next week on speeding charges.
