St Clair Salt Water Pool opened for the season with a splash yesterday.

A warm Dunedin day led to a busy first day, and among those floating high was Emily Bryan (11), of Nelson.

She is holidaying in Dunedin with her parents, Grant and Fiona.

It was her first dip in a salt water pool.

''It was lots of fun, especially as the day was so sunny,'' she said.

Pool supervisor Gaye Brooks said about 200 people went swimming there yesterday.

The pool, which first opened in 1884, is open Mondays to Fridays from 6am-7pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 7am-7pm.

It will close for the season on March 31 next year.
