Bus submissions closing soon

Bus users in southern Dunedin suburbs have only a few days left to have their say on proposed changes to their services.

The changes, proposed by the Otago Regional Council, include the introduction of a separate Brighton bus run, improved peak commuter and late-night services to and from Mosgiel and the city centre and increased frequency of services to Green Island and Abbotsford at peak times.

Council strategic communications associate director Peter Taylor said since the council started consulting on the changes just before Christmas about eight emailed submissions had been received.

The changes were the result of consultation done as part of the council's introduction of its GoBus strategy to improve the city's bus services.

"They're largely positive about the proposed changes and have offered further constructive ideas."

People had until January 25 to make a submission.

"It is a chance for people to give feedback about how they feel about the proposals and what improvements they think would be good."

It was proposed to keep the Mosgiel loop service.

After the consultation had been considered, the council would put the revised routes and services out to tender in February, with changes to be put place at the beginning of July.
