Frequency of meetings and barriers making it hard for some people to use Go Cards were among several topics highlighted at a public meeting organised by the Dunedin bus users group yesterday.

About 20 people attended the 11am meeting, held at the Dunedin City Library.

Group co-president Alex King said there was considerable community interest in bus transport issues, given continuing changes in the city's transport system.

These changes, initiated by the Otago Regional Council, aimed to provide more direct services and to encourage more people to use the buses, but some changes, including aspects of the new Waverley-Belleknowes service, have sparked community concerns.

Mr King said it had been decided to continue to hold regular meetings, at 11am on the first Monday of the month.

It was suggested that tourists who no longer needed their Go Cards could donate them, through a foodbank-type arrangement, to people who found it hard to afford the $5 card purchase and $10 top-up fee, he said.
