"Venimus, vidimus, vicimus - we came, we saw, we conquered."

Never have the words of Julius Caesar had more meaning for Logan Park High School classics pupils than when they recently won the Otago senior and junior Classics Quiz for the sixth time in a row.

It meant three times the delight for classics teacher Christine Beck, because a third team from Logan Park High School came second in the junior competition by half a point.

She believed it was a record in the competition, contested by schools from across Otago and Southland.

"It's fantastic - really well deserved," she said.

"It's a mark of how popular classics is at Logan Park High School."

Although the school had tasted significant success in the competition during the past six years, the pupils never took it for granted and worked very hard for the results this year.

The secret to the school's success was the pupils were very good at thinking outside the square, deciphering Greek letters and knew about Roman and Greek heroes, gods and goddesses, bizarre or mad Roman emperors, mythology and history.

"It's all very useful in winning," she said.

With the teams still excited about their success, senior team member Alexander Van Alphen-Fyfe struggled to find the words to express how he and his team-mates felt about the success.

"We feel supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

"I'm sure there's some Latin word for how we feel about the success, but I don't know what it is right now."
