Car passenger ejected, hurt

A passenger was injured after being "ejected" from a car in Dunedin yesterday.

Senior Sergeant Shona Low, of Dunedin, said a driver "lost control" and a car hit a parked car on Corstorphine Rd, Corstorphine, just after midnight.

The parked car was empty at the time of the collision.

A passenger of the driven car was injured after being "ejected" on impact and landing on the road.

The male driver of the car ran away from the crash scene but was found by police soon afterwards.

Charges were likely to follow, Snr Sgt Low said.

The Serious Crash Unit was investigating, she said.

A St John spokesman said two people were taken by ambulance to Dunedin Hospital’s emergency department.

One person sustained serious injuries and the other suffered moderate injuries.

● In a separate incident early yesterday, a car was "badly damaged" after it hit a power pole in Dunedin.

The car hit the pole in South Rd, Caversham, near Carisbrook School, just before 3am.

A police spokeswoman said the car was "badly damaged".

A St John spokesman said no-one was injured.
