Bridget Meyer (right) watches emergency service crew members cut one of her sons from a car in Dunedin last night.
Ms Meyer, of Dunedin, said her two teenage sons were travelling towards the city when their Toyota Prius hit ice on Mt Cargill Rd and "fish-tailed'' about 6.30pm.
The car left the road, hit a mature macrocarpa tree and travelled about 15m down a bank.
Ms Meyer said the younger brother was driving his sibling to a friend's house.
A St John spokesman said the brothers were taken by ambulance to Dunedin Hospital, one with minor injuries, the other with moderate injuries.
Ms Meyer said the boys were lucky they were not seriously injured.
"I'm feeling surprisingly calm. It will probably hit me tomorrow,'' she said looking at the wreckage last night.
