The organ sounded fine and, as the choir advanced up the aisle yesterday, it was apparent the August 11 fire had done no damage to the building’s acoustics.
After one week at St Joseph’s Cathedral, the Anglican congregation returned to its home at the Octagon.
Assistant priest the Rev Barbara Dineen said after the service that the cathedral resembling a building site was a reminder that people, too, were a work in progress.
"It proves we don’t need to have beautiful buildings to worship beautifully," she said.
Beautiful buildings did, however, help to inspire great music, she said.
The fire, caused by an electrical fault, tore through the roof.
The Rev Dineen said the damage was significant but it could have been worse and the church was adapting to the space it was now operating in.
