Passengers on the cruise ship Arcadia and a regular scheduled Taieri Gorge Limited service had a bonus bit of interest in the form of a Helicopters Otago Bell JetRanger following both trains on Saturday.
This was for sequences being shot for a new souvenir DVD to be released later in the year.
The helicopter, carrying a rail videographer, who produces his own periodical rail news DVDs, and cameraman for TVNZ, Lindsay Benbrook of Auckland, had its doors temporarily removed on one side for this purpose.
It followed the large train for the cruise ship Arcadia from the lower gorge right through to Pukerangi, before doubling back to take footage of the flowing Taieri Gorge Limited in perfect weather conditions.
The Taieri Gorge Railways current DVD was created in 1997, and has been a popular seller, but it has been felt that it is time to update it with a new one, as many aspects have changed since then.
The following shots are seen from the loco of the latter train (shot by myself, loco crew).
