It was laughs and lollies all round at the Mayfair Theatre yesterday as families watched the antics of the Circus Quirkus.

The Dunedin Rotary-run event offered tickets to children and families who experienced challenging life circumstances.

Dunedin Rotarian Stuart Melville said it was the sixth year the organisation had run the event in Dunedin.

"This show allows people who may not otherwise have the highest chance of seeing the show to come along.''

Tickets were funded by individuals, corporate companies and charities, he said.

During the circus, children were invited onstage to assist in balancing and dance acts.

The all-Australian circus crew will perform in Invercargill today.
