Classic fairy tale takes contemporary ecological twist

Actress Jess Keogh (26), from Carol Krueger Theatre Productions, stars as mermaid Serene in Krueger's adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen tale The Little Mermaid.

She is pictured with Brooklyn Krueger (9), who plays a seahorse.

The play opened this afternoon and runs at the Globe Theatre, in Dunedin, until Saturday.

While it follows the basic storyline of the fairy tale, The Little Mermaid was about how plastic was affecting the oceans - a cause Mrs Krueger felt ''very, very strongly'' about.
