A Dunedin man was preparing to sleep on a couch when the back of a ute "came flying through the wall".

The woman whose vehicle crashed into the parked ute escaped with minor injuries. Jaryd Grimwood said he had gone to bed in his house in Elgin Rd just before 1am on Saturday.

His friend James Harrex was sitting on the end of the  couch in the lounge,  preparing to sleep on it.

Mr Harrex heard a  screech of tyres, and stood up just before the back of a parked ute "came flying through the wall", demolishing the couch. The impact knocked him to the floor.

Mr Grimwood said a woman  had driven a hatchback into his flatmate’s parked ute. Mr Harrex had minor cuts.  A St John spokesman said the woman had minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Dunedin Hospital.

Both vehicles were badly damaged and were towed away, Mr Grimwood said.He had no contents insurance to cover the couch and asmashed television.

The woman driver had been interviewed and "tests" were being processed, a police spokeswoman said.

Charges might be laid as a result of the incident, the spokeswoman said.
