Police are on the hunt for a thief after Mountain Biking Otago’s new All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) worth $23,000 was stolen this week.

Mountain Biking Otago president Kristy Booth said the club’s new Honda Side by Side ATV, which was purchased in February after fundraising and sponsorship, was believed to have been stolen on Wednesday night.

The club was alerted that the locks on the shed where it was stored had been broken with the ATV missing yesterday.

It was gutting for the club to lose the equipment, which was used for track maintenance and transporting injured riders among other uses, she said.

"It’s a very valuable asset."

Police were continuing with their investigation.
