A Dunedin mother admitted drinking a bottle of wine before speeding to pick her children up from school.
Sioban Anne Gray (aka White), 47, appeared in the Dunedin District Court yesterday and admitted drink-driving.
The court heard that on July 18 the defendant was driving near a school when she was pulled over for speeding.
Gray was clocked at 17kmh over the speed limit and when police spoke to her she showed signs of intoxication.
She admitted she drank a bottle of wine before driving and breath testing procedures revealed the woman had a breath-alcohol level of 994mcg — nearly four times the legal limit.
She told officers she had to pick her children up from school.
Yesterday, counsel Liam Collins made an application to have the woman’s name permanently suppressed, which community magistrate Sarah Steele declined.
The court heard about Gray’s personal circumstances, the details of which were suppressed.
Mr Collins accepted his client had a "very high level in very dangerous circumstances" but noted it was her first conviction and she did not have any demerits.
Ms Steele sentenced Gray to nine months’ supervision, fined her $400 and ordered her to pay court costs of $148.
Gray was also disqualified for 28 days, after which the alcohol interlock provisions would apply.
