New safety features for cyclists have been installed at an intersection where a cyclist was killed.
Peter James Wells was killed after he was hit by an empty logging truck in November 2011.
The safety features were part of the Anzac Ave-State Highway 1 intersection upgrade work, and included new cycle signals.
New Zealand Transport Agency Otago-Southland Highway manager Ian Duncan said similar traffic signals were installed at the Portsmouth Dr-Midland St intersection about 18 months ago.
Cyclists will now trigger the cycle phase when they approach the Stuart St white limit lines, when they enter the hook turn area - which will allow cyclists to turn right from the left-hand side cycle lane - or if they push the button on the hold rail on the railway station side of the intersection, he said.
In addition, a new footpath has been added.
