Every day since the end of March, Mosgiel grandmother Jo Douglas has crafted a sweet display with her collection of toys, entertaining her grandchildren (from left) Iris (4), Phoebe (10), and Malcie (8) and neighbours through lockdown and in Level 3.

Mrs Douglas had been sharing her bubble with her grandchildren and was inspired after seeing teddy bears in windows take off as a popular community project.

"I saw that in the paper, and I thought I had a lot of toys and could do something with them.

"I’ve got six grandchildren and kept my children’s toys too."

She set up the display in her front yard, or inside if it was raining, with or without her grandchildren’s involvement.

More than 15 toys, led by Raggedy Ann, had gone on a series of "outings", including a day’s skiing, a day at the gym, some open air painting, a volleyball match, sleep-overs and a series of Star Wars related events on May 4. They even put on special events for Anzac Day and Mother’s Day.

"The kids got very creative with their Star Wars display one day, I’ve been writing captions for the photos and sharing them on Facebook," Mrs Douglas said.

"A few people have suggested a book, but I think it’s more a thing for the time, while we’re in lockdown this is something to entertain."
