Consent fee for insulation retrofits gone

Property owners who retrofit their homes with insulation will no longer be charged a consent fee.

Mayor Dave Cull put forward a motion during deliberations on the 10-year plan to exempt people who retrofitted their properties with insulation from being charged a fee by the Dunedin City Council for the consent needed.

Such insulation work still required a consent and needed to be inspected by a council staff member.

The council's building services team already granted exemptions for the retrofitting of insulation on a case by case basis, but the proposal formally removed at least one barrier stopping some residents from improving their homes, Mr Cull said.
