Long-awaited bus shelters and seats have been installed at Dunedin's regional bus stop.
Yesterday two shelters with seating were erected at Moray Pl, around the corner from the Great King St bus hub, which is the main stop in the city for regional bus travel.
A Dunedin City Council spokeswoman said it installed the shelters, which would be ready for use today.
''The shelters were relocated from other areas and the installation cost is yet to be determined.''
Previously, the stop had no seating or shelter and passengers were seen daily sitting on and blocking the footpath, vulnerable to adverse weather.
Dunedin resident Anne Marie Parsons and regular bus user pressured the Otago Regional Council and city council to install shelter and seating there.
She could not be contacted yesterday.
When asked about the issue in May, former regional council support services manager Gerard Collings said there were no plans to introduce shelter at the stop.
However, in July, Dunedin public transport team leader Julian Phillips said it was working alongside the city council to provide shelter there.
