The Otago University Debating Society (OUDS) has done itself proud at the latest World Universities Debating Championships, after one of its teams reached the knock-out rounds.
OUDS president Alice Sowry said its A team, made up of former Otago University Students' Association president Paul Hunt and Patrick Dawson, came 22nd at the event held in Greece which finished last week.
"Getting 22nd in the world is impressive considering how many teams there are at the tournament. This year, 398 teams competed in Greece, making it one of the most competitive world championships ever.''
The society, which had three teams competing, would have liked others to have made the knock-out rounds, but was "reasonably happy'' with the result considering how "incredibly tough'' this year's event was.
