The temptation to stay up and witness the historic moment when the South Island analogue TV signal was turned off at 2am on Sunday was close to irresistible.
But we're guessing some ODT readers did manage to resist and were therefore deprived of the excitement of watching TV classics such as Herbie - Fully Loaded dissolve from the screen to be replaced with leftover radiation from the Big Bang.
Luckily, YouTube user asasinz hung in there and managed to capture the analogue demise of several channels.
The dramatic moment when Herbie star Matt Dillon steps triumphantly from a car, only to instantly dissolve into static (about 4mins 35secs on the above video) is probably the pick of the bunch.
