A Dunedin man was found hiding from police behind his neighbour’s fence after drunkenly crashing into multiple parked cars.
The 57-year-old man's drunk stunts behind the wheel resulted in him crashing his van into four cars parked in Quarry Rd, Green Island at 6pm yesterday, Acting Senior Sergeant Iain Notman, of Dunedin, said.
After he crashed, he pulled into his home address nearby but police officers called to the scene could not find him there.
The man had decided to hide from police by hiding behind his neighbour's fence.
He was quickly found.
The man underwent breath testing procedures and recorded a breath alcohol level of 857mcg — over three times the legal limit.
His driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 28 days and he was charged with excess breath alcohol.
He also had further driving charges still under investigation, Snr Sgt Notman said.
The man would appear in Dunedin District Court at a later date.
