Dunedin’s hair stylists a cut above

Half of the prizes in  a national hairstyling competition were won by Dunedin stylists.

The TrendVision Awards were announced at Te Papa, in Wellington, on Sunday.

Zaibatsu Hair Art  won the New Zealand Salon award.

"It was awesome," salon owner Jaimee Smith said.The salon also won the award last year, she said.

An apprentice at the salon, Jackson Rodeka, won the New Zealand Apprentice award.

"He has only been a hairdressing for a year. It was pretty cool," Ms Smith said.

Ms Smith won silver in the creative vision category.

She won gold in the category last year and represented New Zealand at the International TrendVision Award in Barcelona.

The gold winner of the creative vision category was Moha Hairdressing co-owner Kylie Hayes.

Mrs Hayes, whose salon is in South Dunedin,  will represent New Zealand in London next month.

She represented New Zealand at the event in 2010 and 2015.

"It is considered the Olympics of hairdressing," Mrs Hayes said.
