A rally against rape was held in Dunedin on Saturday, with those attending sending a clear message against ''victim blaming'' in the wake of the Roast Busters scandal.

About 150 people turned up to listen to speeches and music and enjoy other entertainment, on the Museum Reserve.

Rape Crisis Dunedin community educator and funding co-ordinator Anna-Kristy Munro, who organised the rally, said the rally was against ''victim blaming'', which she felt was prevalent in New Zealand society.

''No-one invites rape, no-one asks for rape, and no actually does mean no,'' Ms Munro said.

It also provided a forum where survivors of rape and abuse could come and speak, she said.

The Roast Busters scandal had been traumatic and ''triggered'' a lot of feelings for many survivors.

Labour Dunedin South MP Clare Curran and union organiser Glenda Alexander were also among those who spoke. Other protests were held in Auckland, Hamilton, Palmerston North, Wellington and Christchurch.

A 15-year-old girl who says police failed to act on her complaint that she was sexually assaulted by two young men associated with the Roast Busters two years ago has laid a new complaint, according to reports.

Police have come under fire and the Independent Police Conduct Authority has been ordered to investigate after senior officers said they could not take action against the group of young men who bragged online about having sex with drunk and underage girls because none of the girls had stepped forward.

It was then revealed the girl had laid a formal complaint with police two years ago after she was sexually assaulted by two young men but no further action was taken.

Last night, 3News said the girl had now gone back to police and laid a second complaint.
