Dunedin arrest after Facebook death threats

A 17-year-old  Dunedin youth who allegedly published death threats against a 17-year-old Milton youth on Facebook was arrested and charged with threatening to kill or do grievous bodily harm, Milton police said yesterday.

Constable Brian McKinney said a Dunedin youth studying at Toko Training made threats on Sunday over the social networking site that he would kill a fellow student on Tuesday.

Police had printouts of the conversation, in which the teenager made "fairly detailed and blatant threats" about how he would "stab the person", which were "serious enough to follow up on", Const McKinney said.

It appeared the Dunedin youth had taken offence to a comment posted on Facebook about him, Const McKinney said.

He was located at Toko Training at 11am yesterday and brought before the registrar at the Balclutha District Court, where he was released on bail to appear in the Dunedin District Court on July 12.
