Police are investigating after an elderly Dunedin couple was found dead in their home this morning.

Officers are guarding the scene and police are being tight-lipped at this stage over what has happened.

It is not known whether the deaths are suspicious.

Detective Senior Sergeant Kallum Croudis of Dunedin Police said the bodies would be removed from the property this afternoon.

A post-mortem examination would be conducted early in the week and ESR forensic specialists will be helping police at the scene, he said.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
