The Kiwilele's programme, in its 13th year nationally and 10th in Dunedin, involves children learning chords and songs on the ukulele, while many also learn to read tabs and play melody lines, culminating in a massed ukulele orchestra.
Mrs Winder was thrilled to have 43 schools in Dunedin involved in Kiwileles and the possibility of more to come.
She was equally effusive about yesterday's free introduction to the song-book.
"Those teachers, gosh they're great, they play like they've played all their lives and they've got these wonderful singing voices.
"The kids are really lucky to have such wonderful music teachers."
