Eleven ill after more vomiting cases at hospital

Two more Dunedin Hospital patients and another two staff members have developed diarrhoea and/or vomiting, a spokeswoman said last night.

The ill staff would not return to work until they had been symptom-free for 48 hours, infection protection and control charge nurse manager Jo Stodart said last night.

The new cases bring to 11 the number of staff and patients affected at the hospital and Wakari Hospital since Wednesday.

Norovirus has been detected in one ward at each hospital, but Mrs Stodart said it was not known whether the four most recently ill people had norovirus, as test results were not back yet.

Wards 8B and 6B at Dunedin Hospital, which closed on Monday, were expected to reopen over the weekend, she said.

Special cleaning had almost been completed in both.
