Waikouaiti Coast Community Board chairman Alasdair Morrison says some tsunami emergency response issues highlighted in the Dunedin area after the 7.8-magnitude Kaikoura earthquake have been ''unfortunate.''
Mr Morrison told a community board meeting at Waitati last night that he was keen to provide clear tsunami risk information in a simple flyer format to people in the area.
He was disappointed with some aspects of what had happened and would have liked to have seen faster progress in addressing some concerns.
But he appreciated that emergency managers were working to make improvements and to overcome communication problems that had been highlighted in the incident.
Dunedin City Council representative Cr Jim O'Malley said it was fortunate no tsunami had hit the Otago coast, and much could be learned from what had happened.
Board deputy chairwoman Geraldine Tait emphasised that board members had been well aware of the earthquake and potential tsunami.
She said they had been communicating and updating information.
