New Zealand Poet Laureates gathered at the Dunedin Public Art Gallery, where about 200 people attended on Saturday for a rare opportunity to hear the nation's poetry elite read some of their work.

Twenty years ago, John Buck of Te Mata Estate Winery created the Te Mata Estate Laureate Award, but in 2007 the Government took over funding of a poet laureate and vested responsibility for the award with the National Library.
