A fund-raiser is being held for a former Mosgiel man fighting for his life in a Perth hospital.
Di Leonard, of Mosgiel, said her nephew, electrician Cameron Leonard (27) was living and working in Broome, 2240km north of Perth, and sustained a serious head injury in a car accident.
He was ''fighting for his life'' in the intensive care unit at Perth Royal Hospital.
''It will be a long hard road to recovery,'' Mrs Leonard said.
Mr Leonard was born and raised in Mosgiel and played for the Taieri Rugby Football Club until he went to Taieri College when he played for the school.
After playing for the college, he returned to the club to play for the colts, she said.
His father Dave Leonard lived in Mosgiel and managed the junior colts team at the club last year and had flown to Perth to be with his son.
Mrs Leonard said she was the singer and her husband Mark Leonard was guitarist in the band Girl Friday, which would perform at a fundraising evening for Cameron in Mosgiel next Saturday.
The band and rugby club rooms had been provided free of charge and the money raised at the event would go towards paying for Cameron's future care.
''We still don't know what he is going to need but already there has been some major debt incurred. It will provide a wider level of support because we feel so helpless being over here.''
• Entry to the event at Taieri's Peter Johnstone Park clubrooms is $20 per person and people are encouraged to bring a plate.
Tickets are available from BP Alco Motors in Gordon Rd or Mrs Leonard on 021 279-9424.
