The New Zealand Model Vehicle Club Otago branch opened its annual Model Expo 2011 on Monday, showcasing model vehicles spanning nearly a century.

"We always try to do something that will interest everybody. The main theme this year has been cars we remember, so there are models from the pre-1920s cars to the present day," New Zealand Model Vehicle Club Otago branch committee member Howard Brockie said this week.

"Model vehicles always appeal to all sorts of age groups. The grandchildren like the modern stuff and the grandparents usually prefer the older stuff."

Members of the Otago club spent last weekend setting up the 1800 vehicles in the display.

"There's everything from horse-drawn vehicles through to V8 Supercars, military vehicles, motorbikes, buses, hot-rods and cranes," Mr Brockie said.

"We've also got a few dioramas and a range of sand-cast Fun Ho! models." The exhibition is open from 10am to 8pm daily, in the former Every Educaid premises, at the corner of Bond and Jetty Sts, until August 20.
