Cr Christine Garey explains the Dunedin City Council's 10-year plan to University of Otago student Holly Tudehope in the Link yesterday.

Councillors and council staff held two meet-and-greet sessions yesterday, one at the university and the other in the Octagon, as part of the consultation process for the $864million plan for the city.

Cr Garey said she enjoyed explaining the council's vision for Dunedin to students and university staff.

``They've all been really knowledgeable and it's important we interact with the city's young people on this, because they bring so much energy to the discussion.''

As a third-year environmental management student, Miss Tudehope said she was interested in the plan's process and would be studying it in her environmental politics class.

She did not know much about what was proposed in the plan but was very interested in learning more about the council's plans for the architecturally designed walking and cycling bridge.

More face-to-face events are planned for different parts of the city before the 10-year plan hearings, which start on April 9.
