Mr Olson hails from Oregon, in the United States, where he learned to rope and ride at a young age.
The 2003 National Senior Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame inductee has had a lifetime involvement in rodeo as a contestant and organiser, and behind the microphone.
He has won the International Professional Rodeo Association Western Region Announcer of the Year Award twice and also the PRCA Committeeman of the Year Award.
He has announced the California finals for nine years, the Oregon State High School finals for 12 years, the National Senior Pro Rodeo finals for 11 years, the Canadian Senior Pro finals for five years, the Northwest Pro Rodeo finals, and the New Zealand Rodeo Cowboys' Association national finals twice.
Mr Olson said after many years on the road, he decided to slow down and spend more time with family on his ranch near Terrebonne, Oregon.
"But when an opportunity like this comes along, to travel and do what I love, I just couldn't say no."
Event organiser Fred Doherty said it would be fantastic to have a truly world-class announcer at the rodeo.
"It will be an exciting event, the likes of which Dunedin has never seen before," he said.
