The Zimucha family from Zimbabwe have adjusted to Dunedin's climate and are happy to be New Zealand citizens.
The family swore the oath of allegiance along with 37 others at the citizenship ceremony at the Municipal Chambers in Dunedin this week.
Mr Zimucha, who is a coachbuilder in Palmerston, moved to New Zealand in 2005 in search of better opportunities.
His wife, Liliosa, and children Laura (11) and Douglas (8) followed five months later.
The Zimuchas have enjoyed living in New Zealand, especially since becoming acclimatised.
"Dunedin was a bit cold, especially in the winter," Mr Zimucha said.
Despite the weather, the Zimuchas thought Otago was a peaceful and beautiful place.
"Dunedin is a good place to raise children," Mrs Zimucha said.
Dunedin deputy mayor Chris Staynes said he was honoured to welcome the vast array of people as New Zealand citizens.
It was the first time he had officiated at a citizenship ceremony.
