Organiser Mike Lea said more than 200 cars of United States origins had taken part in the 31st edition of the annual event, which began with a car cruise on Friday night before a display day at Hancock Park on Saturday.
The cars included Fords, Chevrolets, Mustangs, Dodges and Plymouths, mainly from the 1930s to the 1960s as well as later models, which had come from around the South Island, he said.
The public response had been "brilliant", as "several thousand" people visited the venue during the day.
The turnout was helped by fine weather and the Eagles concert at Forsyth Barr Stadium that night, which brought thousands of travelling fans to the city.
The car show was always held on the first Saturday in March, but the timing of the Eagles concert had been "quite fortunate", he said.
"It just shows you how events can piggyback off each other and assist each other."
