The  public has shed light on its preferred site for a new aquatic facility in Mosgiel but remains in the dark over car parking plans at both locations.

The Taieri Communities Facility Trust has been collecting feedback over the summer on the preferred site to build a new aquatic facility.

The first option (site A) covered some of the existing Mosgiel Pool site, the Mosgiel Caravan Park and Memorial Park near Gordon Rd.

The second option (site B) is on land between the rose garden at the Mosgiel Memorial Gardens and Reid Ave.

Trust chairwoman Irene Mosley said the trust was pleased the public made about 500 submissions before consultation closed at midnight on Sunday.

The submissions revealed no clear preference for either site but gave a clear picture of the public wanting the facility to be built as soon as possible and for it to cater for all age groups.

Trust member Bill Feather said he was ``disappointed'' the Dunedin City Council had not released car parking plans for both sites during the consultation period.

The concerns about car parking and traffic flow were regular topics of conversation with the public, Mr Feather said.

``They want to know where they will be able to park their car and we haven't been able to tell them.''

Mrs Mosley said the council told the trust ``it was too much work'' to provide parking plans for both sites.

Mosgiel-Taieri community board chairwoman Sarah Nitis asked the council for parking plans at the last community board meeting on February 8.

She had not received the plans but hoped they would be supplied before the next board meeting on March 15.

Council recreation planning and facilities manager Jendi Paterson said council staff would meet the trust next week and review the submissions received during the trust's consultation.

The trust's consultation was on the location of a future pool.

``Car parking and traffic flows will all be considered as the design process progresses.''

The car park plans would be developed as the project design progressed, she said.

More consultation from the trust would not be required when the car park plans were publicly available, she said.
