Case closed. University of Otago student Anne Chapman's trip to the United Kingdom got off to a bad start when the 21-year-old's luggage was lost in transit, but thanks to the efforts of a fellow tourist, she and her luggage are about to be reunited.
That fellow tourist is Wellington man Mike Brewer, who has been having luggage issues of his own.
After his luggage failed to arrive when he landed in London on September 5, he thought his problems were finally sorted when British Airways sent luggage to where he was staying in London.
However, he was shocked to find he had been sent Ms Chapman's instead.
After failing to get information from the airlines, he emailed the Otago Daily Times yesterday in the hopes of reuniting Ms Chapman with her luggage.
''Please can you publish something, so either Ann[e] or someone she knows can alert her to the fact that her luggage has been found. I'm sure she'd like her things back!
''As much as I'd like to have mine back, I'd like to try and help some[one] else out, as I'd hate it to ruin their holiday,'' Mr Brewer said.
After a search through the phonebook, the Otago Daily Times got hold of Ms Chapman's mother, Nicky Chapman, who quickly got in touch with her daughter.
When contacted by the ODT last night (morning UK time), Ms Chapman, who is in England on an exchange at Essex University, said it was a ''relief'' her luggage had been found and thanked Mr Brewer for his efforts.
The only piece of the puzzle remaining is where Mr Brewer's luggage ended up.
By the time he was contacted by the ODT last night the airline was arranging to get Ms Chapman's luggage back to her, but the whereabouts of Mr Brewer's remained unknown.
''Hopefully, it ends well for everyone,'' he said.
