Spice and sunshine were served at a refined Dunedin International Food Festival on Saturday.

Events and communications manager Dan Hendra said it was the second time the Otago University Students' Association festival had been an O-week event.

O-week was more than just partying and the food festival was an easy ''tag on''.

''Everyone loves good food,'' Mr Hendra said.

About 2500 people dined at the 23 food stalls on the Otago Museum lawn on Saturday and, despite the forecast, the rain stayed away.

The issue of long queues to buy food tokens last year had been resolved with more vendors accepting money cards, he said.

''We've managed to refine it and it's worked out a lot easier.''
