Armed police were called to a Dunedin property yesterday after reports of threatening behaviour by a man allegedly in possession of a gun.

A large police presence, including a dog unit, rushed to the Cornhill St, Northeast Valley, address after initially being called to Leith St, where the man was first seen, a police media spokeswoman said.

A group of men armed with a "wooden stick'' were reported by a male at the property, she said.

The men were banging on the door but by the time police arrived the group had dispersed.

A man with a "soft air pistol'' was located and spoken to, she said.

"Police are now speaking with the male in relation to both incidents,'' the spokeswoman said.

No-one had been arrested by late yesterday, she said.
