Andrew Roxburgh, of Dunedin Hospital, hangs a painting of the Dunedin Botanic Garden, watched by artist Cheriene Singer, at the hospital yesterday.

Ms Singer, a former Otago Polytechnic art student now living near Rangiora, gave two paintings to the hospital's collection.

She completed the acrylic paintings during her final year at the polytechnic's art school, which coincided with the garden's 150th anniversary.

"Iwanted them to go to a public space where they were going to benefit people.

"I thought the hospital was a nice place [to give them to] because they would brighten up the walls and benefit both patients and visitors.''

Dunedin Hospital art advisory committee member Barbara Brinsley said the paintings were put up at the hospital's foyer off Great King St.

"They're in an open position for everyone to see.

"We have a very extensive art collection and it's extraordinary and wonderful that people want to donate works.''

The paintings are titled One Hundred and Fifty Years of Growing Up and Peter Pan and a One Hundred and Fifty Year Old Garden.
